New for January 2010! Parallel
plate waveguide supports wave propagation (even a low-loss TEM mode),
but has no sidewalls like rectangular waveguide. It is becoming
an enabler for teraHertz systems.
A 2010 paper entitled Superfocusing
terahertz waves below Lambda/250 using plasmonic parallel-plate
waveguide by Hui Zhan, Rajind Mendis, and Daniel M. Mittleman
explains the degree of energy confinement increases exponentially
with decreasing plate separation.
Dr. Mendis is a fan of Microwaves101
and sent us this paper. You can obtain a free copy on the Optics
Society of America's web
site.
This page is awaiting more content
from readers like Dr. Mendis!
