New for August 2019: rectax is like coax and supports a TEM wave.  Above some frequency, non-TEM waves can propagate.  The first unwanted mode is called TE11.  How do you know when it is possible?

TE11 is possible when the average perimeter between center and outer conductors is one wavelength.  Look at the image below.  The mid-point perimeter is easy to calculate, it is 

Midpoint perimeter=W1+W2+H1+H2

We'll skip that derivation as it can easilly be done on a bierdeckel after three pints.
