New for June 2015!
Also known as paramps, parametric amplifiers use non-linear elements....
While we wait for some IEEE MTT-S help on this topic, here is a book chapter on paramps

Idler
What is an "idler"?
A tensioner “pulley” guides the belt and keeps it tight but produces no drive power to anything connected to its axle .
The term idler frequency is used in paramps to specify the difference between the pump frequency and the RF frequency. Idler currents (currents flowing at frequencies other than the input and output frequencies) are shown to be necessary for multiplication by integers greater than two with abrupt-junction varactors.
More to come!
