Microwave events are given below in roughly chronological order. We try to update this page twice a year, please accept our apologies if some entries are out of date.

IEEE Radio & Wireless Week, 20-23 January 2019, Orlando, Florida, USA

The annual IEEE Radio Wireless Week consists of five co-located topical conferences:

  • RWS: IEEE Radio and Wireless Symposium
  • PAWR: IEEE Topical Meeting on Power Amplifiers for Wireless and Radio Applications
  • SiRF: IEEE Topical Meeting on Silicon Monolithic Integrated Circuits in RF Systems
  • TWIOS: IEEE Topical Workshop on the Internet of Space (IoS)
  • WiSNet: IEEE Topical Meeting on Wireless Sensors and Sensor Networks

IEEE International Solid State Circuits Conference, 17 21 February 2019, San Francisco, California, USA

From their web site:

Traditional computing solutions tend to be very vertically oriented. The cloud brings the promise of many benefits such as flexible computing power, shared software applications, and centralized databases. Solutions for bridging the gaps in the cloud will need to evolve from the technologies and systems we have today. New approaches to sharing networks, infrastructure and data storage will be required, as will new approaches to securing these shared resources. These solutions will challenge systems designers to consider new system architectures and will also require advances in circuit and technology.

IEEE International Solid-State Circuits Conference - (ISSCC)

IMAPS packaging conference, 6 - 8 March 2019, Fountain Hills, Arizona

This is the 13th year of the IMAPS device packaging conference. It's held at a resort in Arizona, bring your golf shoes and "go green" and rent some sticks. If you're on government per diem, you'll be purchasing your own meals! The "M" in IMAPS should stand for "marketing", this is not an IEEE-type event. IN addition to the requisite supplier exhibition, IMAPS provides processional development courses, the day before the conference starts.

GOMACTech, 25 - 28 March 2019, Albuquerque, New Mexico USA

Possibly the coolest symposium for defense types, the Government Microcircuit Applications and Critical Technologies Conference audience is restricted to U.S. citizens only. In 2014, Charleston was great, if you don't mind eating barbecue twice a day. In 2015 it was held in St. Louis, Missouri, in 2016 it moved to Orlando. GOMACTech is always held at a hotel that can meet government per diem rates, which explains why it has been held at Bally's Casino in Las Vegas several times, and Reno in 2017. Don't expect it to be held at a waterfront property in Boston! In 2019, you can be assured that the Unknown Editor will follow up the conference at Ski Apache, the weekend of March 29, if there is any snow left on the slopes.

ARMMS Microwave conference, 19-20 November 2018,  Wyboston Lakes, Wyboston, England

The Automated RF and Microwave Measurement Society has a conference twice a year in the U.K., once in April and once in November. Approximately 15 papers are presented over a two-day period. ARMMS provides past papers on their web site for downloading. From their web site:

The original aims of the society have expanded over the years as instrumentation has become more automated and we now cover diverse topics in Radio and Radar design and test, metrology, medical, materials testing etc.

Components for Military & Space Electronics (CMSE) Conference & Exhibition, 7 - 10 May 2018, Los Angeles, California, USA 

This three day conference includes over 25 technical presentations and a full day of cutting edge industry tutorials from experts in the field along with keynote talks from technical leaders at NASA and USAF SMC. CMSE is the most comprehensive conference addressing successful practices for the use of both military and COTS components in military and space systems. CS MANTECH, 29 April - 2 May 2019, Austin, Texas, USA

Here's their mission statement (we copied from their website!)

CS MANTECH is a not-for-profit organization whose focus is to provide a forum for members of the compound semiconductor community to exchange and discuss new ideas to better serve the public in general.

CS MANTECH, "CS" meaning compound semi, was once called GaAs MANTECH. This organization posts their material on line for free downloading, so you can learn what your competitors are bragging about by perusing abstracts from prior years.

ITT Workshop on CAD of Microwave Integrated Circuits, 9 - 10 June 2018, Tiruchirappalli, India

The objective of the course is to impart in-depth knowledge in the Computer-aided design of Microwave components including antennae through the conventional coding (MATLAB). The highlight of the workshop is to compare the joy and originality of getting the solution through conventional coding with that of commercial software tools (ADS, HFSS, CST MWS, COMSOL, etc.). Each has got its own exclusive merits and demerits. The demonstrations will speak of the above claim. Eligibility: The programme is open to the Research Scholars, UG, PG, faculty members, and Industry persons, to get exposed to the state-of-art design of MICs.

Industry Days - Additive Manufacturing for RF/Microwave hardware, 16-17 October 2018, Noordwijk, The Netherlands

After a successful first edition for the Industry Days – Additive Manufacturing for RF/Microwave hardware, we have initiated the preparation of a second edition.  Our main purpose is to trigger the discussion regarding the manufacturing of RF/Microwave parts using additive manufacturing. We are sure that, considering the multi-disciplinary environment we will have, the discussion will be very fruitful.  The format for the Industry Days is the same than previous edition. We will have presentations distributed in two days. To build the agenda, we will open a period for a call for abstract where any potential presenter can summarise the scope of the talk and the benefit for the community.

IEEE BiCMOS and Compound Semiconductor Integrated Circuits and Technology Symposium (BCICTS), 
14 - 17 October 2018, San Diego, California, USA

Starting in 2018, the IEEE Bipolar and BiCMOS Circuits and Technology Meeting (BCTM) and the IEEE Compound Semiconductor Integrated Circuit Symposium (CSICS) will join forces and merge under a new name: IEEE BiCMOS and Compound Semiconductor Integrated Circuits and Technology Symposium (BCICTS) pronounced “Be-Six.” That's a lot of initials, but the important thing to know is that this is a personal favorite of Microwaves101's Unknown Editor, who had his real name appear on a paper at the 2013 conference. He's even been known to tweet during the event. The audience is truly international,  and because it draws people back each year most of the audience and chair people know each other (but are glad to welcome new attendees). Coverage includes all aspects of the technology: materials, device fabrication, device phenomena, TCAD modeling, compact modeling, integrated circuit design, testing, and system applications. A wide range of integrated circuit technologies are covered, including bipolar, BiCMOS, SiGe, GaAs, GaN, InP, SiC, and CMOS. The latest results in wireless, analog, RF, microwave, high-speed digital, mixed signal, opto-electronic, millimeter wave, and THz integrated circuits are embraced.

This may be the only IEEE symposium that never has to hire a band for its reception, thanks to multi-talented members.

European Microwave Week, 23 - 28 October 2018, Madrid, Spain

The best boondoggle is of course EuMW. Get your passport ready, and get away from Starbucks, TGI Friday's, Chipotle, Comfort Inn and all the other crap venues in the New World wasteland! EuMW is actually four conferences on different microwave topics, including wireless, radar, and integrated circuits.

1st November 2018, Møller Centre, Cambridge, UK

This is Interlligent UK’s fourth annual RF & Microwave Design Seminar. This year's event will feature leading presenters from industry and academia discussing key RF and microwave technologies and applications. Presentation topics will include:

  • mmWave 5G
  • GaN power amplifiers
  • Broadband satellite communications
  • Microwave front ends for automotive communications
  • Advanced broadband measurement setups
  • Microwave hardware for IoT and M2M

The seminar will also include a display area hosting selected companies from the RF and microwave industry.

You'd be surprised at what you can learn at this conference, even if you only speak English.

Old Crows are a group of people that are interested in electronic warfare. They hold many conferences on different topics throughout the year, but the main convention is in the Fall.
